Too often I see a projected six week recruitment process turn into months; I see the preferred candidate reject the role because of their frustrations with the process; and I see employers missing out on good talent as prospective candidates accept other positions.

Although Australia was not hit by the GFC nearly as badly as the rest of the Western world, we still felt the effects. Commerce slowed down, and we had to fight harder for business we won. Revenue was good but not buoyant through most of 2010. For Mindset, our activity and profit sky-rocketed in the last quarter. It was like someone suddenly turned the tap on full again.

I sit here in Melbourne and watch the TV footage of the unfolding flood catastrophe in Queensland. I have many friends in Brisbane; a few have evacuated their houses. One I know has a thriving retail business which is now underwater. I think to myself what would I do if it was my business?
